What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
I am an Integrative-Relational counsellor and psychotherapist:
- Integrative simply means that I studied a range of counselling and psychotherapy models which enables me to draw on specific aspects of these and tailor the work we do to suit you as a unique individual.
- Relational means that I pay special attention to the relationship between us as therapist and client. This is a unique and psychologically intimate relationship and it is important that we are able to build trust and feel able to talk freely. How we approach and behave in relationships with others is often emblematic of how we are in the world and our approach to life. By taking a deeper look at these relationships we can begin to understand ourselves. Leading to greater self awareness and compassion.
- Counselling lends itself towards shorter term work which may be goal focused over 6 -12 sessions whereas psychotherapy is longer term ‘deeper’ work.
